Aloha, and welcome to Eco-Luxe Living: Hawai’i! Looking to transform a small bedroom into a dreamy workout space? This blog post is for you! We’ll take you through our inspiring journey of revamping a cramped, outdated bedroom into a bright and functional exercise room that’s perfect for home workouts.
Transform Your Small Bedroom into a Home Gym for Under $2,000!
Here’s what we did (and how you can do it too!):
Bringing the Outdoors In: Natural Light Makes a Big Difference!
The key to opening up this small space was swapping out the old windows for stunning French doors. This not only brought in natural light but also created a gorgeous view of the Kohala Forest Reserve, instantly making the room feel larger and more inviting. (Estimated Cost for Budget-Friendly French Doors: $800-$1,000)

Transform Your Space with a Murphy Bed!
Install a fold-down Murphy bed to maximize space. This genius furniture disappears when not in use, giving you all the room you need for your workouts. (Estimated Cost of Murphy Bed Kit: $150, mattress needs to be purchased separately)

Built-In Bliss: Storage Solutions for a Tidy Workout Haven!
Smart storage is essential for any room, and this one is no exception! We replaced the old closet with custom-built cabinets, perfect for storing exercise equipment and keeping everything organized. The TV was mounted on the wall above the cabinets, creating a sleek built-in look. Neutral colors and clean lines throughout the design ensure a peaceful atmosphere. (Estimated Cost: Varies depending on size and complexity – DIY for under $500 for supplies or hire a professional. I ordered two freestanding cabinets for $130 that I incorporated into the design.)

Calming Colors & Cozy Touches
Paint your walls in peaceful tones and add warm wood flooring for a serene feel. Shiplap is trending now, and you can paint it a cool shade like “Iron Mountain” by Benjamin Moore. Don’t forget – flat or matte paint is having a moment! (Estimated Cost: Paint – $50-$100, Flooring – Varies depending on material. Pro tip: Check your local Restore (Habitat for Humanity donation stores) for budget-friendly lumber and construction items.)

- Thrifted Finds & Finishing Touches: Score a giant mirror at a thrift store to create the illusion of more space – it’s a workout essential too! Check out more of our DIY thrift store transformations. (Estimated Cost: Thrifted mirror – $10-$50, Lighting – Varies depending on style)
- Light the Way & Greenery Power: Soft lighting and a few strategically placed plants will add to the tranquil atmosphere. Check out more of our lighting tips and trends.
Total Estimated Cost: Under $2,000 (depending on material choices and DIY vs. hiring out projects)
The Takeaway: Reimagine Your Space!
Transforming this small bedroom into a multi-functional exercise room was incredibly rewarding. It’s a perfect example of how smart renovations can improve the functionality and beauty of any space. We hope this inspires you to reimagine rooms in your own home!
